Frozen Bocce Tourney 22 Years Strong
Think you’re ready for bocce season? Think again. A small town in Minnesota just beat you to the court.
On Saturday, February 22, 2014, Stillwater, MN celebrated it’s 22nd straight year their annual Frozen Bocce Tournament. Water street was closed to accommodate 64 teams battling it out on 8 courts in an event lasting 12 hours.
“Everybody looks forward to it,” remarked Gerry Brine, tournament organizer and restauranteur. “People say once we get through the bocce ball tournament, it’s like spring is really close.”
It seems Brine might be on to something. In years past, the groundhog has been our springtime indicator. Perhaps, all along, we should have turned to bocce.
